1. General information
The specific objectives of the subject are: 1. To know the fundamentals and concepts of Environmental Impact Assessment . 2. To know the legislation and regulations governing Environmental Impact Assessment. 3. Manage methods and techniques for the identification, characterization, valuation and minimization of environmental impacts.
The subject is part of the subject "Territorial Management of the natural environment: deepening", within the module 2 of Applications. It allows the student to evaluate the impact that human action will have on the environment, which implies the prior knowledge of the complex interactions that characterize natural systems and provides very relevantinformation for land use planning.
SDGS 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 y 17.
2. Learning results
In order to pass this subject, the students shall demonstrate they has acquired the following results:
1. Describe, analyze and value the complexity and diversity of natural systems and their constituent elements as basis for Environmental Impact Assessment.
2. Indicate, analyze and apply the regulations related to environmental impacts.
3. Describe, compare, assess and apply different methodologies for impact identification and assessment.
4. Propose alternatives and solutions to the problems generated by anthropic action in the environment.
5. Design and prepare complete and coherent environmental impact studies.
3. Syllabus
The program of the course is structured in three blocks:
1. Introduction and general concepts on Environmental Assessment.
2. Legal and administrative framework for Environmental Impact Assessment.
3. The Environmental Impact Study: concepts involved and methodologies for its development.
4. Academic activities
The training activities combine theoretical and practical sessions following a common thread consistent with the structure of environmental impact studies. The theoretical sessions focus on the presentation of fundamental concepts. In the practical sessions of problem solving and cases in the classroom work with legislation and the application of the fundamental methodologies to real cases. Laboratory practices focused on spatial analysis are also developed for decision making. Academic activities are completed with hours of personal study and evaluation tests.
5. Assessment system
First Call:
Continuous assessment. It consists of three tests: two written exams (50%) and the elaboration in groups/individually of a environmental impact study (50%) to be presented in writing and also presented orally.
Assessment criteria: in the examination tests, the understanding of theoretical concepts, the correct use of the terminology and the correct application of methods will be assessed. In the practical work, the correct use of concepts and terminology, the adequate application of methods, the adequacy of the proposals, the formal presentation and writing will be evaluated. Each test must be passed independently (5 out of 10).
Global evaluation. It consists of two tests: written exam (50%) and the elaboration in groups/individual of a study of environmental impact (50%).
Assessment criteria: the same criteria are applied as in the continuous evaluation system. Each test must be overcome independently.
Second Call:
Overall assessment: identical to that of the first call.
